We all know that schools are seriously underfunded and many teachers have great ideas but just don’t have the funds to move their idea to a reality in the classroom. That is why I am so excited to team up with Donors Choose and Savings.com on a great program.

Savings.com is helping make your money go further when you give back to a school in need in the new year! Use the gift code SAVINGS  any time between January 27th and February 24th on www.donorschoose.org/savings, and Donors Choose will match your donation up to $100! By just going through this link, you can double the money for a school!

Want to learn more about DonorsChoose.org. Approximately 40 percent of schools across the U.S. use DonorsChoose.org, an innovative online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers across the country post specific requests to support their classroom projects, ranging from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins  for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. Visitors to the website decide which project they would like to support and DonorsChoose.org delivers materials to the school once a project reaches its funding goal. How great is that!

It is easy to find just the project you want to support. The Donors Choose website lets you filter on the things that matter most to you. Here are a few ideas.

  • Want to help local schools –Use our Location filter to find projects in your state or hometown.
  • Get inspired – What are you passionate about? The environment? Water color painting? A book you’re reading? Narrow projects by subject area, or search for what you care about in the keyword box.
  • Get choosy  – Sort your search results by cost, poverty level, or popularity…whatever matters most to you.

Did you find a project you want funded? I have $25 provided by Savings.com that I will be donating to a project that one of my readers would like funded. I am going to make this very easy. Just leave a comment with the project from Donors Choose that you would like to receive the $25. I will leave comments open through 9:00 am February 13. I will then randomly choose a project to help fund.

You can only enter one time but if you feel strongly about your project be sure to tell your friends and family to leave a comment to up your chances of being chosen. Also remember that when you use the gift code SAVINGS  any time between January 27th and February 24th on www.donorschoose.org/savings, and Donors Choose will match your donation up to $100! I would love to see you all help fund some great projects.

What a lovely thing to do!

I love this project to help really poor kids learn to love reading (a teacher wants her students to read books — not just print outs from anthologies):

I would love to get help with my childrens school bancroft elementary school pto. Bancroft is located in a lower income area and its hard to raise funds since parents don’t have a lot of money in this area. It would really help the pto a lot. Only two parents activily help with all functions the pto does put on. Yor conideration for Bancroft Elemetary school in omaha ne is greatly appreciated!

I think it would be wonderful to help the students in Ms. Pajon’s class at Brentwood Science Magnet. These students travel an hour everyday to receive a better education and study in a safe learning environment. Many of the students do not have computers at home and only have access to a few at school. Thanks for providing the class with this opportunity.
