Have you heard about the IKEA Home Tour Squad? They are design experts that visit different cities across and the country and transform spaces with smart solutions and creative DIYs. A few months ago, they asked if I was interested in having a space in my home transformed and I jumped at the chance. I absolutely love Ikea design and affordability. Plus, I also have always dreamed of being on a home makeover show so this was a dream come true.
I shared pictures with them of our outdated and barely used home office. Even though I work on the website from home, I never went into the space and it had become a dumping ground. Additionally, our home did not have a mud room and I wanted a dedicated drop zone for the kids. Here is a scary before picture. I actually tried to do some more decluttering before the home tour squad arrived because it was such a disaster.
I shared with the IKEA Home Tour Squad some of my goals for the room and my design style.
- Space for me to work and for the girls to complete homework
- Storage space for my crafting and photography supplies
- Drop zone for the girls for backpacks, coats, shoes etc.
- A command center for files, family calendar, and a charging station.
This team listened to all my needs and designed a home office that not only met all my needs but also fit my design style. As you can see from the below video, it was an amazing home office makeover. I could not believe what they were able to achieve in such a short time. If you do not see the video below be sure to watch the home office makeover here. The girls are a little shy in the video.

We absolutely love the functionality of the new office. The girls started doing their homework in the room and I was happy to work in such an amazing space. They even included a real life Pinterest board with pictures from the website. The Pinterest board is made out of 6 Vaggis noticeboards and a very inexpensive way to add some personality to the office.
Home Office Makeover After Pictures
They used 2 Klimpen desks and a Klimpen Table to make a huge work area for me and the girls. There is enough room for each of us to be working and it is also great if the girls have small group projects with other students. The command center area has a spot for folders and a charging station. This dedicated area helped improve our family organization.
I also love the huge amount of storage added to the room with the Alex drawer units and the Pax wardrobes. I was able to move all my supplies that I had in the basement up to the office and keep them organized. Look at all the organized storage!
They used a Pax Wardrobe to make a dedicated area for coats, boots, shoes, hats, gloves. backpacks, dance bags, musical instruments and more. I love that they designed it so each girl got a spot just for their things! I also love that I can shut the doors and the office is neat and clean.
As a bonus, they made me my very own gift wrapping station. Instead of tracking down gift wrap for that last minute birthday present, I can quickly wrap a present and be on my way. This is a very affordable extravagance and really adds to the usability of the room.

Love this! Was this before or after the Germany move?

This was before. We found out we were moving after this amazing makeover. I was so sad to leave this great place to work. The furniture is all on the way to Germany now and hopefully I can set up something similar in our new home.

Love it! I’m kind of jealous I don’t have access to an Ikea now. 🙂 (visiting from Wake Up Wednesday)
