As busy moms, we often put our kids or other priorities first instead of our health and check-ups. That is why I was happy to partner with VSP Vision Care (VSP) for their #EyeOpeningMoments campaign. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
Did you know that annual eye exams are important for so much more than just vision care? They can also be crucial for catching other health issues. I was surprised to learn they can detect all kinds of health issues including diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disorders, high cholesterol, thyroid disease and even cancer. It seems that the eyes are no only the window to the soul but also the window to a bunch of health issues! After dealing with cancer myself, I am 100% committed to being proactive with my health and my family’s.
My daughter and I both went to the optometrist recently to get our eyes checked. We are lucky to have vision insurance. The costs of eye exams, glasses and contacts can really add up without insurance.
They noticed that my daughter had some blood vessels growing in her eyes even though she only periodically wears her contacts. They fitted her for new contacts that should help with her eye health and also help her vision not become worse as she grows. I have been having trouble with my contacts due to dry eyes. The doctor informed me that this probably a combination of aging, wearing contacts for so many years and the prescription I take to help my breast cancer from reoccurring. She prescribed some prescription eye drops that have been fantastic. I can not believe how much more comfortable it is for me to wear my contacts now. I really should have gone in for an appointment earlier. Lesson learned on that one!
Going to the eye doctor does not have to be a scary experience for kids or a boring task for adults anymore. There are so many fun and fashionable frames for everyone! My daughter’s frames are Vera Bradley and even came with a cute matching case. My youngest daughter is jealous that she doesn’t need glasses. She had an annual eye exam but her vision and eye health is great much to her dismay. LOL
