Floating Ornament Made with a Silhouette Cameo

My favorite crafting toy is the Silhouette Cameo and I created this really neat floating ornament with a transparency, black vinyl and some fun snow! To make this fun ornment, I cut a piece of transparency, the shape of my ornament with a tab at the top. I used a design from the Sihouette online store and cut my Santa and sleigh in vinyl and applied it to the transparency. Then I rolled it up around a pencil and inserted the transparency into my ornament and voila! Just add snow.

You can check out the Silhouette Cameo and all of the neat products that Silhouette America has to offer here:

If you would like to learn how to create fun projects with vinyl, I have put together some great resources, tip and tricks on how to get started with vinyl projects with your Silhouette machine or other electronic cutter.

You can get larger packs of transparencies on either Amazon or at Office Supply Stores. Buying them online is more cost-effective.

Which design from the silhouette store did you use for the insert?

      Hi Cris,
I did not use a Silhouette file. You can easily make your own template by drawing a circle and attaching a small square at the top to fit in the opening of the ornament. For example if your ornament is 3 inches, draw your circle about 2.8 or 2.9 inches. I tested out my file by cutting it out of paper and inserting it before using the acetate.

Let me know if you have other questions!

Dummy question, but the transparency works like a see-thru sticker that is stuck inside the ornament correct?

It is actually floating inside. The transparency is cut as a circle with a small square fused to the top of the circle. I cut my black vinyl, placed it on the already-cut transparency. then I rolled it to stuff it in my ornament. the small square at the top helps to keep the transparency upright, floating inside the ornament. I hope that makes sense!
