What Is Yummy Crate
The Yummy Crate is a monthly subscription box recommended for ages six to fourteen. It is designed to help a child develop a love for cooking and science. Each month a box is delivered with new recipes, STEAM activities, and a special cooking tool required. It does not include the ingredients for the recipes, but it does include a special shopping list to make it easy to go out and buy the materials to fit your own family’s dietary needs. If the yummy crate is not the perfect fit for you, there are also other subscription boxes available. For instance, for about the same age range they have the Atlas Crate to help foster a child’s love for history and geography.
Yummy Crate Review
The first crate that she tried was the Yummy Crate. It came with three delicious-looking recipes: blueberry muffins, tye-dye noodles, and transforming lemonade. It also came with a fun STEAM activity to learn about the pH levels of cabbage, which you can then use to make bookmarks. She decided to make the blueberry muffins. It provided a detailed list of all of the culinary tools and ingredients that she needed. This made our trip to the grocery store and all of my preparations a breeze. The recipe is easy to follow, very detailed, and informational. It has images along with an explanation of the steps, which makes any new cooking techniques very clear. Along with the recipe, it also has fun science facts related to what you are making. For instance, she learned that baking soda is able to turn the blueberries in muffins green due to creating too high of pH levels.
It also included important information on how to get the right consistency of the batter and how to tell your muffins are done using the toothpick test. With all of the great information in the small folding booklet, she was able to make some scrumptious muffins for our family and friends. We both highly recommend this crate because it teaches valuable culinary skills in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, which also produces a yummy reward at the end!

Subscription Box for Kids
We also received a soap making crate that guided my daughter through making crystal ombre soaps. Almost all of the supplies needed for the craft were included in the crate and required only two things from our home, which we already had, saving us from a trip to the store. The only extra items we needed were a microwave and a paper towel. At the beginning of the booklet guide, it gives interesting information about geodes and gave her background on the wonderful soaps she was making. It also warned her that soap making can become messy and allowed her to take the proper precautions while making the soap. The guide gives detailed steps on how to make the soap, along with underlining key information in the steps and visual aids to the explanation. It also continues to give warnings about being careful with the hot soap so no one burns themself.
Using the guide and the provided materials, she was able to make beautiful, glittering soaps. They even look much like the geodes that the craft was based on! Besides being absolutely aesthetically pleasing, they are also very practical. You make soap that you can use while washing your hands and spruces up a room at the same time. She had such a great time making the soaps she ended up making three different soaps and experimenting with the different colors she was able to make. She even gave one of her soaps to her friend as a birthday gift which was extremely rewarding. Overall she completely loved this craft.
We both highly recommend all the boxes that we got and tried. The wonderful directions that are included in all of the KiwiCo crates ensure that any activity that you complete from the box turns out wonderfully. You also always make something that you keep or eat as a reminder of your hard work and learning which is very fulfilling!
