I always try to think of fun and creative ways to upcycle these boring plastic Easter eggs and this year I decided to do Chalkboard Easter Eggs. These are so easy to make and you and your kids can have so much fun decorating them with designs and cute, short sayings or designs! Chalkboard Easter Eggs
There are so many ways to decorate for Easter, but sometimes you just want something different. What if I told you there was a fun and creative way to decorate your home with just a few simple materials. One of my favorite ways to celebrate Easter is with chalkboard eggs that you can customize and decorate in your own way with pictures or messages. Not only are they super easy to make, but they’re fun too!
This Easter, why not try this quick and thrifty DIY project? Chalkboard Easter eggs are perfect for both children and adults. They’re easy to make, and you can use them to decorate your home for the holiday.
Eggs have long been a popular decoration for Easter dinners, but this year why not use them as place cards? The eggs can be decorated with any design and name you want. And once the celebration is over, simply wash off the chalk and they’re ready to be used again next year!
What You Will Need for DIY Chalkboard Easter eggs
- Chalkboard Paint or Chalkboard Paint
- Brush
- Plastic Easter Eggs
- Newspaper (or anything to lay them on while they dry)
- Chalk – (Chalk markers would make be fun too!)
How to Make DIY Chalkboard Easter Eggs
- Grab your plastic easter eggs and lay them flat on your piece of newspaper.
- Grab your flat paintbrush and pour your chalkboard paint onto the top of the brush.
- Carefully start painting your easter eggs making sure to get all angles.
- Allow to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying your 2nd coat.
- Once they’re dry apply your second coat following the same steps as before. (It’s okay if a little of the colored eggs shows through the paint, it’s a great way to add character. )
- Allow to dry overnight.
- Once my eggs were completely dried I took some plain white chalk and start doodling the cute sayings of Love, Family, Blessed and Easter! You can write anything or your kids can make designs.
- Lay them out on a dish, on the table or just around the house.
- Enjoy this fun and easy Easter project with the kids.

Sorry to hear that. I didn’t use primer maybe your eggs are different. I am not sure. Did you get them to work?
