Sweet Potato Crisps with Slaw are the easiest most flavorful sweet potato appetizer ever and they are also a total crowd favorite. These are perfect for any party but they are especially great for Thanksgiving. Be sure to check out all out easy party planning tips and party food.
Ok, I have a confession to make. I was not a huge fan of sweet potatoes. There I said it! Sure they were great on Thanksgiving and I have a couple of tried and true recipes that are made with sweet potatoes (and gosh I love those recipes), but outside of that, they were not my favorite. Needless to say, I never explored the option of using them as an appetizer. These sweet potato bites make a perfect Thanksgiving appetizer.
That was until a friend shared with me how to make sweet potato crisps and at that moment I knew that my life (at least my appetizer-making life) changed.

Looking for the best Thanksgiving Appetizers or Year Round?
Sweet Potato Crisps are incredibly delicious and versatile, they are really crunchy, they also taste like the season (warm, comforting and oh so good!), but my favorite thing is that they are the perfect canvas to experiment! I mean you can use them as bread and top them with almost anything under the sun.
However, my favorite way to have them is with some slaw salad on top. The combination of sweet potato crips + slaw salad is just to die for, and I can’t really recommend it enough. The result is creamy and cool and crispy and warm all at the same time! These make perfect light Thanksgiving appetizers or really these could be made year-round. For a little bit of crunch and sweetness, these sweet potato crisps with slaw will hit the spot!
The Slaw Sweet Potato Crisps are also really easy to make, and you don’t need a ton of time to whip them up from scratch which is really great, especially in these hectic entertaining seasons (who wants to spend the whole day in the kitchen? definitely not me!).
You can also make as little or as many as you want, which comes in handy when you want to whip up some appetizers for a book club or a really small gathering and don’t want to end up with a lot of leftovers.
The easiest way to slice the sweet potato thinly and consistently is to use a food processor. I have this Cuisinart that I love.

Tips for making the Best Sweet Potato Crisps
The best sweet potato crisps are made with thinly sliced and evenly cooked potatoes. To achieve this, it is important to use a food processor or mandoline to slice the potatoes thinly and evenly. This will ensure that the slices are all of an even thickness. It is also important not to overcrowd the baking sheet, and to spread the slices into a single, even layer. The key to getting crisp sweet potatoes is to roast them at a high temperature in the middle rack.
Furthermore, the best sweet potato crisps are baked in the middle rack for about 15- 20 minutes. However, depending on the thickness of the slices and strength of your oven, you might need to bake them a couple of minutes more or less. Lastly, it is important to let the chips cool for a few minutes after baking before eating to prevent burning.
Why are my Sweet Potato Chips not Crispy?
To make sweet potato chips crispy, it is important to slice the sweet potatoes as thinly as possible. The thinner the slices, the crispier the chips will be.
Another way to make sure the sweet potato chips are crispy is to roast them at a high temperature. Baking them at a lower temperature for a longer period of time will result in soggier chips.
Crowding the baking sheet will also result in thicker chips. The key to crispy sweet potato chips is to spread them out on a baking sheet in one layer. This allows them to roast evenly and prevents them from steaming and becoming soggy.
